Sustainability Report 2023
Sustainability report exploring Re:food's impact management process, initiatives, and performance in 2023.
Executive summary
Re:food invests where the food system is both solvable and investable. In 2023, as capital fled food and agriculture and broader markets turned, we took the contrarian view that lower valuations, stronger surviving companies, and supportive policy made it the right moment to invest in the transformation.
This report sets out how we put that conviction into practice across our investment lifecycle. It details the impact and ESG methodology we built and refined over the year, from how we screen for Solvable fit at sourcing through diligence and into active ownership, and introduces tools like our ESG Roadmap Workshop developed to support portfolio companies directly.
It then turns to performance: the outcomes we seek across our four themes, an honest assessment of how much impact our companies are creating, and the risks to delivering it. Grounded in the Re:food Circle and the EAT-Lancet science, it reflects a year focused as much on strengthening how we measure and manage impact as on the impact itself.
We support companies in maximizing positive impacts and seek to mitigate and avoid negative ones across every dimension of the Re:food Circle.
