Executive summary

This executive summary lays out the key highlights from our Food is Solvable report, focusing on our Theory of Transformation: the research-backed approach we use to invest in innovations at the leverage points that target the most critical, science-backed food system shifts. It rests on five conceptual building blocks, from the planetary boundaries and a social foundation to the EAT-Lancet shifts, systems thinking, and the Three Horizons framework.

It then shows how we put that theory into practice. Using the ABCD method, we break our four themes into investable segments, and we illustrate the approach with portfolio examples across Healthy Soils, Sustainable Proteins and Fats, Healthy Diets, and Sustainable Supply Chains

We see repairing the food system for the benefit of future generations as the most compelling, albeit underinvested, business opportunity of our time.
